Neem and Curry Quest
Upon their arrival in Tirumala, Lord Srinivasa asked Padmavathi to find neem and curry leaf trees. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't locate them, leading her to eventually settle in Alimelu Mangapuram.
The concept for the temple of Sri Padmavathi Devi, the beloved consort of Lord Venkateswara, blossomed during the years 1974-1975. This inspiration took root when the revered Srila Prabhupada made a pilgrimage to Tirumala-Tirupati at the invitation of the Andhra Pradesh Government. Witnessing the devout throngs and experiencing the profound spiritual ambiance of the locale, Srila Prabhupada envisioned Tirupathi as an ideal center for propagating the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and the divine essence of Lord Krishna. He aimed to foster an atmosphere of universal harmony and spiritual enlightenment, drawing seekers from across the globe to this sacred sanctuary.

Prince Akasharaja and Dharanidevi, desperate for children, sought solace in a ritual advised by sage. During the yagna, a miraculous event occurred: Padmavati emerged from a lotus. King Akasa Raju, guided by divine forces, named her, symbolizing her lotus birth. As he ploughed the land, countless lotuses bloomed, tying her to the soil. This legend intertwines with Srinivasa's penance, culminating in Sri Mahalakshmi's birth from a golden lotus, sanctifying Padmasarovaram tank. Adjacent Surya temple, attributed to Lord Venkateswara, immortalizes Padmavati's bond at Tiruchanuru. Legends intertwined, etching a divine tale. Legends intertwined, etching a divine tale of miraculous origins and sacred bonds.
The revered deity whom they extolled is Vakshasthala Vyuha Lakshmi, residing within the heart of Sri Venkateswara. Presently, Goddess Padmavathi is also honored as Vira Lakshmi. It is essential to convey that whether addressed as Goddess Padmavathi Devi or Alamelu Manga, both epitomize the same divine essence, aiming to dispel any doubts among pilgrims and foster unified worship. In customary tradition, during Panchami Theertham in the month of Kartika, offerings of turmeric, kumkuma, and silk attire are sent by the deity of Tirumala in reverence to the Goddess of Tiruchanur. As Padmavathi reached maturity, Lord Venkateshwara embarked on a quest to unite with her. The celestial union of Lord Srinivasa and Goddess Padmavathi unfolded in grandeur.
The reason for Padmavathi's absence in Tirumala lies in the divine dynamics of their relationship. Long ago, Padmavathi resided in 'Shanti Nilaya', a golden palace atop a hill as high as the Seven Hills of Tirumala. However, due to the weight of her benevolence, the hill upon which her palace stood sank into the ground, necessitating their separation. While Lord Srinivasa stands ready to receive devotees' prayers in the temple atop the hills, Padmavathi, known as Alamelu Manga, sits on a lotus in Tiruchanur, eagerly listening to devotees' wishes and ensuring they are granted by her husband. This divine separation symbolizes their complementary roles in fulfilling the desires of their devotees, with Padmavathi acting as the mediator and advocate for their prayers.
