Tirumala Vasanthotsavam Guide

Vasanthotsavam is an Arjiitha Seva performed daily to Lord Sri Venkateswara in Tirumala. Originally an annual ritual in November, it's now a daily affair with a slight variation. Pilgrims can book and attend this Seva, held in the Vaibhavotsava Mantapam, offered to Sri Malayappa Swami and His consorts – Sridevi and Bhudevi. The Seva begins with applying scents to the deities and chanting Purusha Suktam, Narayana Suktam, Shri Suktam, and Bhu Suktam, followed by Abhishekam with sacred substances. Sandal paste is applied, and other rituals are performed. The Seva concludes by showering the idols with water through a Sahasradhara Patram. The experience of Vasanthotsavam is profound, with the Abhishekam and spiritual objects offering immense pleasure. Ticket holders receive two small laddus as prasadam, completing the divine experience.

Spring Festival Origins

Per temple lore, the Vasanthotsavam Festival commenced during King Achyutaraya's reign in the 1460s. This annual observance, attributed to the monarch, honors the advent of Spring Season. For three days, Lord Venkateswara and his Consorts enjoy an aromatic bath, providing respite from the intense sun. In Tirumala, Vasanthotsavam is both a daily Arjitha Seva and a springtime three-day Seva. The festivities begin with purification rites, deity and nature worship, and symbolic purification rituals. Thereafter, adorned in white silk, the processional deities partake in an aromatic bath and don sacred Tulasi Malas before receiving Harati.
